R.L. “Ed” Edwards is a graduate of Southern Illinois University, having earned a degree in Workforce Education and Development cum laude. In December of 2005, Ed completed his legal training at Loyola University of New Orleans School of Law receiving a Juris Doctor degree. Admitted to the limited practice of law while attending law school, Ed worked in the felony division of the Jefferson Parish District Attorney’s office where he tried several felony matters, including; aggravated rape of a child, possession with intent to distribute, attempted murder of a police officer, and aggravated domestic violence. Hurricane Katrina blew Ed and his wife, Becky to Oxford and allowed Ed the opportunity to attend the University Of Mississippi School Of Law for a semester. Thanks Oxford and Ole Miss!
Admitted to the Mississippi Bar in 2006, Ed started his own law firm in Hancock County, Mississippi. While in the solo practice of law from 2006 to 2009, Ed was able to work at refining his skills in the litigation of personal injury claims, domestic and family law issues, and criminal defense. In 2009, Ed joined the Mississippi Army National Guard as a Judge Advocate and was activated and mobilized until the end of 2013.
Ed is both a US Navy veteran and a US Army veteran, having served 9 years in the Navy rising to the rank of Electronics’ Technician First Class (E-6). After the continued terror attacks on the US, Ed joined the Mississippi Army National Guard. Ed has answered our Nation’s call to serve several times throughout his career. He has deployed to Iraq in support of Operation New Dawn as the Staff Judge Advocate for the 1-185th Aviation Helicopter Battalion in 2010-2011, and was most recently deployed to Camp Beurhing, Kuwait in 2015 with the 185th Theater Aviation Brigade where he was Brigade Trial Counsel. Ed currently holds the rank of Major in the US Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps and his military decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and Navy Achievement Medal.
Ed and his wife, Becky made the decision to make the Mississippi Gulf Coast their home in 2015 when they purchased a home overlooking the Mississippi Sound. Coming from New Orleans to the Coast has been a wonderful experience and quickly helped Ed to make the decision to reestablish his law practice on the Gulf Coast. Ed’s legal skills were recently recognized when he was named to fill the position of City Prosecutor for the city of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi.
As Ed has progressed through his legal career, it has become clear that assisting individuals through difficult times is a calling that Ed had felt he could not ignore.
